There’s a woman beneath the veil,
And she’s everything I’ve ever been.
Every strength and every weakness,
Every scar beneath my skin.
I don’t need to be unbreakable,
I don’t need to be made of stone.
I’m learning that the strongest thing
Is being enough on my own.
If the veil should fall tonight,
Let the truth come to light.
I’m not becoming someone new,
I’m uncovering what is true.
I am my own strength,
Even when I bend.
Even when the night feels long,
When I don’t know how it ends.
I can be both fire and water.
I can be both fierce and kind.
I can lose my sense of direction,
Without losing who I am inside.
I am my own strength,
Not because I never fall.
But because I know there’s more to life,
Than simply making it through it all.
There’s a woman beneath the veil,
And she’s not asking to be saved.
She’s learning how to life a life
That doesn’t have to be explained.
She’s got questions without answers.
She’s got dreams she hasn’t chased.
She’s got her entire life ahead of her,
And she’s done letting it go to waste.
I cannot change what’s already happened.
I cannot rewrite yesterday.
I cannot control every circumstance
Or make the uncertainty go away.
But I can choose this moment.
And I can choose the next.
I can decide what matters,
And what no longer deserves my breath.
If it’s not something I can control,
Then why the fuck should it control me?
I’ve spent enough time holding on
To things only I can set free.
I am my own strength,
I am my own home.
I can walk into the unknown,
Without feeling like I’m alone.
I can be both strong and tender.
I can be both wild and wise.
I can carry all my contradictions,
Without living in disguise.
There’s a woman beneath the veil,
And she’s not afraid to feel.
She knows that being vulnerable,
Doesn’t make her any less real.
She doesn’t need to be perfect,
She doesn’t need to prove her worth.
She’s allowed to exist without apologizing,
In this life she’s been giving on this earth.
I am my own strength,
And I’m learning what that means.
Not becoming what the world expects,
But becoming everything that’s me.
What I am and what I give,
Will always be a part of me.
But what I choose to give myself,
Will shape the woman I will be.
And when the veil falls completely,
There’s no one else I need to be.
No perfect image to protect,
No other life I need to lead.
